Rhode Island thrower Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan is in the midst of an historical season in the ring and could be in position to win a pair of national championships when he competes at New Balance Nationals Indoor, March 11-13 at The Armory in New York City.

The latest in a long line of championship-level throwers in Rhode Island's rich weight throw/hammer tradition, Robinson-O'Hagan has also become the nation's best shot-putter.

With top marks of 82-3 in the weight throw, which is No. 9 all-time, and 69-0.25 in the shot put, which is No. 13 all-time, the Ole Miss signee is in a class by himself.

No other male high school thrower in history is ranked in the top 15 of all-time in both events.

The senior from Woonsocket, R.I. leads a parade of top-ranked field event athletes entered at next month's NBNI.

Another athlete with a possible double championship in mind is Stanford-bound senior Alyssa Jones of Miami Southridge FL, who is entered in the high jump and long jump. Jones was the Florida Class 3A champion both of those events last year and owns personal bests of 5-11.75 in the high jump and 21-4 in the long jump.

In the long jump, Jones will face Gianna Locci of Stillwater Central NY, who owns the US#1 this indoor season with 20-2.50. Another eight girls in the competition owns marks over 19 feet.

Wyatt Stewart from Kaizen Pole Vault Club in Richmond, Ky. is the US#1 pole vaulter this winter after clearing 17-7 at the Eastern Indoors Invitational on Feb. 12. He is one of 10 boys over 16 feet this season expected to come to NBNI.

Seven entries in the girls pole vault have cleared bars over 13 feet.

In the girls shot put, a big matchup looms between US#2 Emma Callahan of Shenango PA and US#3 Trinity Franklin from Bullis MD.

Gregory Foster Jr. of Lawrenceville NJ, who flew to New Jersey's second-best long jump all-time when he stretched the tape to US#1 24-8 at the Mercer County Championships, leads the field in that event. Alex Smith from Hilliard Darby OH is also a 24-foot jumper.

Brion Stephens from Warren Central IN, who cleared 7-1.50 on Jan. 22, leads the boys high jump field.

Suzan Ogunleye from Pflugerville Hendrickson TX, who is US#1 in the girls triple jump with 41-10, will get a chance to face Tamiah Washington of Thomas Proctor NY, who is US#2 with 41-1.

Robinson-O'Hagan could pull off the double in the boys throws, but he'll have plenty of competition.

At the Millrose Games last month, he dug deep to pull out a personal best throw (82-3) to defeat Michael Pinckney of Brooklyn Construction NY (81-2.50). It was the first time in more than a decade that two boys both achieved marks beyond 80 feet in the weight throw.

The rematch, which will also include US#3 Asher Robbins from Barrington RI and US#4 Gary Moore Jr. from Hillhouse CT, should draw a lot of attention to the throwing cage.

In the shot put, where Robinson-O'Hagan smashed a state record dating to 1971 this winter, he will be pitted against Max Klein of Newton North MA (US#5 64-10.25) and Moore Jr. (US#6 64-1.25).

New Balance Nationals Indoor will return to The Armory for the first time since 2019 after being canceled the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
